Aamir begins shooting for Kajri!

Scoop! Aamir begins shooting for Kajri!
Stalwarts come together: Chiranjeevi gives the mahurat clap for Aamir Khan in Kajri

Aamir Khan, who has finally finished shooting for his ill-fated children’s film Taare Zameen Par, is currently working on the Hindi remake of the Tamil superhit Ghajini.

The actor, who likes to do things quietly (and secretly), held a small mahurat ceremony for the Hindi remake, titled Kajri, in Mumbai last week.

Present at the function were Telegu superstar Chiranjeevi, who sounded the clapper, and Tamil actor Surya (who played the lead in Ghajini).

Also in attendance were producer Allu Aravind and director AR Murugadass, who is making his Bollywood debut with Kajri. Interestingly, Murugadass has previously directed the Tamil Ghajini.

It may be recalled that Ayesha Takia was pencilled in to play the lead but later walked out of the film over differences with Aamir.

Now, Tamil actress Asin will reclaim the role she played in the Tamil version. Another female lead is yet to be finalised.

AR Rahman is giving

the music for Kajri, and Prasoon Joshi is penning the lyrics. When we touched base with Murugadass, he confirmed that the mahurat had taken place last week and that he is currently shooting Kajri with Aamir in Mumbai.

It is learnt that Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated film, Memento, inspired Ghajini.

When we asked Murugadass about this, there was a long pause before he answered, “I am busy shooting the film right now.

I will call you back once it is over.” Not surprisingly, we never heard from him after that.

About Ghajini

Sanjay Ramasamy (Surya), a business tycoon, suffers memory loss after being hit on the head while trying to prevent the murder of his girlfriend.

Owing to the severe injury, his memory lasts only as long as 15 minutes, leading him to forget events and incidents in the past.

In a bid to keep his memory alive, he constantly tattoos notes on himself and takes pictures to help him remember.

His story in unravelled by a police officer (Riyaz Khan), and piques the interest of a medical student called Chitra (Nayanthara), who is looking for a patient with an ‘interesting’ record for her college project.

With Chitra’s help, Sanjay then sets out on a mission of revenge to bring his lover’s murderers to justice.

About Memento

Leonard Shelby (Guy Pearce) is an insurance investigator who has no short-term memory. He develops this condition after being hit on the head while trying to prevent his wife’s rape and murder.

In order to remember, he tattoos important information on his body and takes Polaroid pictures of everything around him.

The story is told in two sequences — one in colour and the other in black and white — which alternate throughout the film. The colour sequences depict Leonard’s investigation.
